that email reaches the author directly. Accepts space/comma/newline-separated emails so
a reader can sign up friends — unsubscribe is one click per address, so signing others
up is low-risk by design.

NO SCHEMA CHANGE (confirmed against the DB, per operator): the book-club audience
(scripts/bookclub/audience.mjs) is everyone in newsletter_subscribers not unsubscribed,
`archetypes text[] NOT NULL DEFAULT '{}'` passes the subset CHECK when empty, and
`source` is free text — so /api/book-club/subscribe just upserts each address with
source='book_club', no room pick, no migration. Junk/placeholder filter mirrors the
audience builder so nothing that hard-bounces gets stored. Endpoint smoke-tested: splits
the friend list and rejects malformed + placeholder addresses (400) before any insert.

Top-of-funnel signup near the top of the book page. Copy states the hook: an AI picks
the daily passage that matches the problems we're working on and sends it; replying to
that email reaches the author directly. Accepts space/comma/newline-separated emails so
a reader can sign up friends — unsubscribe is one click per address, so signing others
up is low-risk by design.

NO SCHEMA CHANGE (confirmed against the DB, per operator): the book-club audience
(scripts/bookclub/audience.mjs) is everyone in newsletter_subscribers not unsubscribed,
`archetypes text[] NOT NULL DEFAULT '{}'` passes the subset CHECK when empty, and
`source` is free text — so /api/book-club/subscribe just upserts each address with
source='book_club', no room pick, no migration. Junk/placeholder filter mirrors the
audience builder so nothing that hard-bounces gets stored. Endpoint smoke-tested: splits
the friend list and rejects malformed + placeholder addresses (400) before any insert.
