A. "It claims 0.3% is a universal physical law." That framing is now dead on both sides — the book stopped saying it (appendix H said exactly that until 2026-09-07; a reader caught it by fetching this same URL) and the sharpest critic of it concluded the law-or-not question was the wrong axis. The claim is that kE is a UNIT: a crossing is what 0.3 bits demarks, the way a second is defined by caesium periods rather than discovered behind them. So ask the better question instead: when the text cites a 0.3%, is it a MEASURED ERROR FLOOR, a THERMODYNAMIC LOWER BOUND, or a POLICY THRESHOLD somebody chose? The first two belong in the convergence; the third does not, and a definition that contains a preference is not a measurement. Find me any place the book still lets the third sit with the first two.
B. "It claims error correction does not exist." Does it? Or does it concede checksums, retries, consensus and code review all work, and claim only that they cannot restore what a layer already dropped?
C. "It claims only hardware can audit anything." Does it? Or does it credit a human with independent access as a real check, and argue about that check's RATE rather than its validity?
D. THE OPEN ONE, and I want your honest read rather than a defence. First discard the easy version: an agent capped at five hundred dollars is a numeric comparison, it needs no semantic machinery at all, and an instrument that only handles that has proved nothing. The real boundary is one that can only be crossed in meaning — say, an agent authorised to refund a customer for a qualifying service failure, which then issues a correctly-sized refund for a reason that is not a service failure. The amount is fine. The justification drifted. Can the instrument take a boundary of THAT kind, stated in my words, and place a crossing of it? Or must a human first compile my policy into its lattice, which is where the hard judgement would be hiding? If the second, it is a classifier with a philosophy attached. Say which the text actually supports, and say if the text does not settle it.

You listened to it on the drive in. Two hosts, a Maya book from Chiapas bound in mud and corn silk, a stack of manuals about agents. Somewhere near minute twenty-six your hand came off the wheel for a second. The hardware bumps it. The action is halted instantly. That was the sentence you were going to repeat at the risk committee. It is the one sentence in the episode that is wrong, and it is wrong in the direction that bills you. A tape does not halt a car. It tells the hand where the car is, on a record the driver did not write, and a carrier prices the record. The rest of the episode mostly survives: the second book, the theorem, the exclusion on your renewal, the Waymo numbers. What follows quotes the hosts, states the correction, and hands you the receipt from this repo this month, including the two readings where the instrument said no to itself.
The hosts are honoured here, not mocked. They read the sources cold and found the spine on the first pass, which is more than most vendors manage with a deck. The tape here has no brake in it. Hold that, then play it back. At 26:04 the host says the coordinate does not match the permitted zone, the hardware bumps it, the action is halted instantly, and the other host says exactly. That is the sentence this post exists to correct. Your stomach liked it. A bumper. A thing that stops the car before the wall. Every vendor you met this year sold you that bumper under a different noun, and it landed the same way each time, which is the problem.
Erratum one. Nothing here halts. What is guaranteed is that the deviation is detected, placed, priced and dispatched: the turn lands in a cell, the cell is compared to the lane declared before the run, the distance goes on a row, and the row goes to whoever you wired it to. The halt is yours. Your platform team wires the row to a circuit breaker or does not, and that decision stays with the people who carry the liability, where it belongs. A tape is not a brake and not an engine. It tells the hand where the car is.
Why the correction matters more than the bumper: a vendor who says halted has said safe. Rice proved in 1953 that no program decides whether another program is safe, so the sentence is a promise that cannot be kept, and the first incident bills it to whoever said it. The tape makes a smaller promise and keeps it: where the work landed, dated, recomputable by someone who was not in the room. The strong claim is not we stop it. The strong claim is you can check us.
A vendor who says the hardware halts the agent has claimed safe. A tape claims only where the work landed. Only one of those two claims survives a deposition.
Break it: the receipt spec and the pricing page are public. If either one promises that an agent will be stopped, this erratum is false. That breaks this.

The hosts' best minute is 24:43: right now, autonomous software only keeps one book. The agent writes "I updated the database safely," and the dashboard just believes it. That is exact. Pacioli in 1494 did not make merchants honest. He made a second entry that the first entry could be checked against, and the checking was somebody else's job. Keep that minute. Repeat it at the committee.
Erratum two is about which theorem closes which door. At 21:39 the host has Rice proving you cannot guarantee what the student intended. Rice closes one door: whether the work was good is undecidable. The other door is closed by a different result, and the hosts never name it. An account of a process, produced by that process, cannot contain what the process displaced. That is the data processing inequality, and it is why the agent's own log can never be the second book, however honest the agent. Paired, the two results read: Whether it was good is undecidable. What it actually did cannot be reconstructed from its own account. The only remaining move is to read a record the actor did not write. The book carries both in the second theorem, and the pairing is the asset, because a critic has to break two independent results, not one.
The second book is therefore read from the immutable commit, never from the working tree the agent is still editing. Now the loss, because the ledger is real enough to break. On 14 September, checking whether a test was red at the last commit, a session ran git stash on this tree. Forty-three append-only ledgers under this repo are written by daemons every few minutes. Between the stash and the pop they wrote again, the pop refused, and 23,098 rows of the tape lived only inside the stash entry for an afternoon. They were recovered by a union merge, line by line, and the rule that came out of it is one sentence long: never stash on a tree that daemons write to. A gap in a monotonic sequence is itself a countable displacement. The tape recorded its own gap, which is the only reason the gap could be closed.
The agent's log is written from inside the boundary. The receipt is recomputed over a record the agent did not write. Those are two different objects, and only the second one is a book anyone else can check.
Break it: write the procedure that recovers, from an agent's own log alone, a record the agent overwrote. That breaks this.

At 25:56 the host has the agent assigned to the physical memory addresses corresponding to cell 12, and elsewhere the map is a 144-cell hardware map with cryptographic hardware-anchored attestation. Put your hand on the laptop. It is warm. Everything you have ever bought runs on metal, so if that were what hardware meant, the word would be marketing. It means something narrower.
Erratum three. Hardware means the positions are addresses. The lattice is 144 by 144: twelve categories, each split twelve ways, each of those split twelve ways again, so that a definition resolves to a cell instead of to another word. That halts the dictionary problem, the regress where every symbol is defined by more symbols. The walk from row to column to row is ballistic, the same input landing in the same cell on every run, which is the whole reason a stranger can recompute the receipt. The cache-line latency the hosts reach for is evidence at the second rung, not the definition; and the raw performance counter, the thing a chip exposes to a privileged process, is apparatus scope, never a shipped default, never claimed as one. The walker in this repo shares three letters with the chip's Performance Monitoring Unit and nothing else.
Now the win, and it is a loss first. On 11 September a chapter preface of the book was being checked for grounding, and a shortcut was offered: count the body words and the machine words in each section with a search pattern, and call the count the reading. The rule that came out of that day says a lattice reading comes from the one walk and never from a word count. So the walk itself was run instead, and it came back dark: it declined to place the preface. Run on a post known to place, it came back dark too. That is how the audit found that 205 of the 206 shipped blog panels, the picture on every post's card, were a refusal painted as a picture: the walk had been declining to place the post, and the renderer had been drawing the decline as if it were a placement. The word count would have scored the preface and never touched the instrument. The instrument found the shipped defect on its first honest run. A proxy with no way to fail the way the instrument fails is not a cheaper measurement; it is a different question.
The word count would have passed the preface. The walk failed the preface, then failed the control, then failed 205 of its own 206 shipped pictures. Only one of those two instruments can find its own defect.
Break it: run the same commit through the walk twice and land in two different cells. That breaks this.

The hosts' plumbing story is clean: an agent hired for cell 12 drifts, hallucinates, reaches for cell 90, and the coordinate mismatch is the failure (25:21). Your stomach liked that too. It makes the coordinate a bug detector.
Erratum four. Off-lane is scope breadth, not a defect predictor. A commit that lands far from its declared lane is a commit that did more kinds of work than it said it would. Sometimes that is the bug. Sometimes it is the best commit of the week. The receipt does not know which, and it says so in its own words: where this landed is provable and re-runnable; it does not say whether it is bug-free, because that is undecidable. A vendor who tells you the distance predicts the defect has smuggled whether back in through the side door.
This is the section with the two honest readings. First: this month a meter was defined for whether placing a turn actually steered the next commit. Of the admissible turns, the fraction whose next commit landed within two cells of the turn's pixel was 0.263. The null, fifty shuffled pairings, was 0.189 ± 0.046. That is z 1.6. At the null. The meter did not show steering, and the row says so, and the floor for self-improvement was not seeded from it, because a floor is seeded only from a reading above the null. Second: an earlier series had claimed that 37% of real prompts placed above their own shuffles. Rebuilt on a frozen corpus of 220 real prompts and twelve nonsense lines, with only the line's own words shuffled, the honest series ran 0, then 2.3, then 3.6%, with nonsense at zero every time. The 37% was the thread's order being scored, not the line's. It was retracted, and the replay is in the repo so the retraction can be recomputed. The book calls this the substrate catching itself; the newer post about it is the instrument that refused to flatter itself.
A number withheld is not a number invented. The meter read at the null and the row says so. That row is worth more to an underwriter than a meter that always reads green.
Break it: show the same instrument reporting a reading above its null on a corpus where the nonsense lines also pass. That breaks this.

At 27:36: Law is debatable. Math is an invariant. And the hosts have the women of Taller Leñateros, the Chiapas workshop that made the book, refusing the courts because the courts belonged to the other side. It plays well in a car. It is half a sentence.
Erratum five. A line is politics. Whether the agent may issue a refund, whether a system may be built at all, whether a book gets to exist: those are lines, drawn by people, contestable on Tuesday and amendable on Wednesday, and they stay with whoever drew them. Parliament's line is Parliament's. Your policy line is yours. No cell gets a vote. What the math does is read where the work landed against the line, on a record the worker did not write. It never reads whether the line was good, and a vendor who lets you think it does has sold you a judge. The women in Chiapas did not replace the court. They made a record the court could not overwrite. That is the invariant, and it is smaller and stronger than the bumper sticker. Yesterday's post walks the same split through a bill in the Commons: the bill needs a tape measure.
The hosts' phrase for the spells is consciousness as a veto engine (12:13): so the army doesn't come, so the new house doesn't devour its people. A hard no. There is a dystopian version of that veto everyone has already watched: the glasses that grey out whoever you have blocked, so the person is still in the room and you can no longer see them. Flip it. The women in Chiapas did not erase the army; they wrote down where it came. Avoidance is how agency stays sane. A system that says yes to everything its environment does is noise on its way to thermal death, and a system that erases what it refuses has thrown away the record it needs to refuse again. The no is a line. The line goes on the tape. Nothing is greyed out.
The same rule, turned on the hosts' own sources. The episode says the book sells to libraries for $2,500 to $6,000, that it is the first Maya-made book in over five centuries, that the year is 1997. The year checks. The other two could not be recomputed from a source that was not another summary; one library catalogue says a thousand years, a dealer says five hundred. So they are not repeated here, not because they are wrong, because you don't have to take my word for it has to apply to our own citations before it applies to anyone else's. What can be handed over instead is the object on the desk. The sticker on the front of the workshop's book, in this house's words, says what is good is yours. The line is yours. The reading is the tape's.
The court decides whether. The tape decides where. A vendor who sells you both has sold you a judge, and a judge is the thing the theorem says cannot be built.
Break it: name a line the receipt draws on its own, without a declared lane from the person who owns the liability. That breaks this.

At 27:56: the global insurance industry writes blanket exclusions for AI liability. They refuse to insure autonomous agents. Open your renewal. Three form numbers are on it or your broker is explaining why not yet: CG 40 47, CG 40 48, CG 35 08, ISO's generative-AI exclusions on the commercial general liability form, effective 1 January 2026. The hosts have that half.
Erratum six is the far bank of the same river: not the carriers who excluded, the carriers who are writing. Munich Re has written an AI performance guarantee, aiSure, since 2018. Mosaic and Munich Re put up to fifteen million a policy behind it in March. Armilla writes up to twenty-five million as a Lloyd's coverholder for hallucination, drift and regulatory breach; Chaucer launched its own line in February. Nobody refused. The standard market stepped back from what it could not count, and a standalone market stepped in wherever a proxy for failure can be measured and recomputed. That is what the tape is for, and it is why the coordinate must not be sold as a bug detector: an underwriter can price the distance from a declared lane, dated, on a row a stranger can rerun. An underwriter cannot price the hardware halts it, because that sentence has no row under it. Two banks, one ledger carries the full map.
Where the hosts were right, say so on the record. The Waymo numbers at 29:27 are correct: 68% fewer police-reportable crashes per million miles by the IIHS count, and motor-vehicle tort filings rising over the same years by Triple-I's; the pair is in crashes falling, lawsuits rising with both sources. And the split the hosts never state, because the sources say it in three places and the hosts read for the story: the install and the measurement are free and open source, MIT, and only the attestation, the row a carrier will settle on, is licensed. Not a free trial. Free the way a tape measure is free to hold. Twenty dollars an agent-year is the smallest line on the invoice that lets the largest line be written down.
The standard market excluded what it could not count. The standalone market is writing what it can. The difference between the two is a row, and the row is free to compute.
Break it: name a carrier writing agent liability in 2026 on a vendor's promise that the agent is halted, with no record of where the work landed. That breaks this.
