docs(outreach): the Marsh account — and the ledger kills a flattering story
THE CAUSAL CLAIM IS BACKWARDS, AND IT IS CHECKABLE.
Jul 13 08:14 ET — Mary says Paul wants Mike Carls + Carlos Dias on the call
Jul 13 23:00 ET — our outbound lands on Paul's desk (15 HOURS LATER)
The committee formed BEFORE our email existed (.thetacog/outreach-log.ndjson: the Denny send is
2026-07-14T03:00:42Z = 11pm ET Jul 13). 'Our midnight pitch triggered the escalation' is a
flattering, unfalsifiable read and it is false. The deal was already becoming a technical
evaluation on its own merits. The retraction is the matrix synchronising — a promotion, not a
rejection — but it is not ours to take credit for, and over-crediting our sends would distort
every read from here.
THE REAL EXPOSURE NOBODY FLAGGED: Paul got the ENTERPRISE-CRO body, which says 'take the signal
to your broker'. HE IS THE BROKER. If he forwarded it to Carls and Dias — which is exactly what
an executive does with a dense midnight pitch — then three people at Marsh have now read a pitch
that misidentifies what Marsh IS.
DECISION: do NOT send a correction email. An errata follow-up reads as disorganised and doubles
volume into a live account. THE CALL IS THE CORRECTION — open in the broker frame in person
('you're not the buyer, your clients are; I want the unit to exist so you can place cover that's
currently excluded'). Said out loud it converts the defect into proof we know where they sit.
Also recorded: reply to Mary first and relieve the EA's pressure (she offered slots and had to
yank them — she is the ally we cannot lose), and the account is 3-people-deep on ONE vector when
the rule is two vectors.

Story: Asked whether the retraction was a problem. It is not — but the advisor's causal story was wrong in a way that would have taught us to over-read our own outbound, and the actual risk (a misaddressed payload circulating inside the account) went unnamed.
